Somer Thompson Foundation Awards Grant

Diena Thompson of the Somer Thompson Foundation awards grant to Joselinne Rivera Mother of 7 year old Jorelys Rivera the 7-year-old girl whose body was found in a Georgia dumpster, was bludgeoned, sexually assaulted and stabbed in a remarkably vicious attack by a killer who police believe lives in her apartment complex.
The wounds to the girl's body were so severe that Georgia Bureau of Investigation Director Vernon Keenan refused to describe them beyond that fact that she had blunt force trauma to the head and stab wounds.Keenan described the crime as a "very horrific and brutal murder."

Jorelys had been missing since Friday and was last seen at her apartment community's playground in Canton, Ga. Her body was pulled from a dumpster Monday and an autopsy was completed Monday night.

TO HELP FIND MISSING CHILDREN

Diena Thompson - radKIDS Certified Instructor

Mission: radKIDS, Inc. is committed to providing education that enhances the ability of children, parents, and families to utilize knowledge, skills, and power to protect themselves from violence and harm. In the late 1990's, a dedicated group of law enforcement professionals, self-defense experts and concerned parents joined forces in an effort to develop a children's safety education program that would, in a fun and interactive way, combine the essential elements of risk reduction strategies with physical skill options to avoid abduction. In May of 1998, after extensive research and development, the radKIDS Personal Empowerment Safety Education Program opened its doors. radKIDS is an innovative comprehensive safety education program for children ages 5-12. Since the organization's inception in 1998, radKIDS, Inc. has provided the radKIDS Personal Empowerment Safety Education Program to more than 150,000 children across North America. As a result, statistics show that among children who have been radKID-trained, there has been a significant reduction in attempted assaults. In those instances in which assaults have been attempted, there has been a 100% successful escape rate. Nationally, radKIDS instructors have documented 40 foilded attempted abduction attempts and thousands of disclosures and escapes from sexual assault and sexual abuse.
PRESS RELEASE

The Board of County Commissioners, at its meeting on March 22, 2010, at 2:00 p.m., will present to Diena Thompson, mother of Somer Thompson, a “Key to the County” for the Somer Thompson Foundation as well as a Proclamation declaring April 5th as Somer Thompson Day in Clay County, and declaring the month of October as S.T.O.P. The Offenders and Predators Month in memory of Somer Thompson .

The Somer Thompson Foundation was established in 2010 to promote the belief that one person’s memory CAN make a difference and to encourage a “Somer’s Safety Program”, with the involvement of the residents, law enforcement, public officials, and the school system in child abduction prevention efforts.

Members of the community and constitutional officers are invited to attend.  For more information, contact Diane Walker at 284-6347 or 269-6347 or at diane.walker@co.clay.fl.us.

DIENA THOMPSON AWARDS GRANT

The Somer Thompson Foundation - President Diena Thompson and her Father Phil Bowling travel to Colorado City, Texas to assist with grant support to Billie Dunn, Mother of Hailey Dunn and also grant support was awarded to Virginia Ennen from Lubbock, Mother of Elizabeth Ennen whose body was found roadside strangled.

Diena Thompson found herself living every parent's worst nightmare when her 7-year-old daughter went missing on October 19, 2009.  Two days later, in a Georgia landfill, Somer's body was discovered.  The community felt an immediate call to action.  Fundraisers were coordinated to aide Diena and her family and we ask the question... Why...Why ?  Diena needed a platform as the voice of Somer... The Somer Thompson Foundation was formed.

THE SOMER THOMPSON FOUNDATION

A non-profit Foundation created to assist a family who have missing children because of an apparent abduction and who, after proper investigative vetting, are determined not to be culpable in the disappearance.  We experienced, first hand, that basic needs had to be met while dealing with the tragedy of Somer’s abduction and brutal murder.  Our first goal is to provide education in the form or awareness and prevention to both parents and children avoid the tragedy of experiencing the loss of a child.  However, in the event that a child is not safely returned, we want to be able to help victims families emotionally and to provide hope in the darkest days with financial grants being awarded by the Foundation that meet the criteria stated in the bylaws of the 501(c) 3  corporation.

THE SOMER THOMPSON® FOUNDATION IS A NON-PROFIT 501(C)(3)
CORPORATION WITH STATE AND NATIONAL REGISTRATIONS
ALL DONATIONS ARE TAX DEDUCTIBLE
